What changes when you convert TIFF to JPG
- JPG compression is lossy. You choose the quality (90 by default): lower values make smaller files but can blur fine detail and leave artifacts around text and sharp edges.
- JPG has no transparency: transparent areas of the TIFF are filled with white, and semi-transparent edges are blended onto white.
- A multi-page TIFF is converted from its first page only.
TIFF and JPG compared
TIFF

- None, but one file can hold several pages; this tool converts the first page.

- Scans, print files, archives, professional photography.
JPG
The most widely used photo format; .jpg and .jpeg are two extensions of the same JPEG format.

- Opens in virtually every browser, operating system, image editor and app.
- Typical uses
- Photos, camera images, web pages, email attachments.

Frequently asked questions
Answers about converting TIFF images to JPG with this free tool.
What happens to a multi-page TIFF?
Only the first page is converted to JPG; the other pages are ignored.
Will the JPG be smaller than the TIFF?
Usually much smaller: TIFF files are often uncompressed or losslessly compressed, while JPG discards detail the eye barely notices. Keep the TIFF as your archive copy and use the JPG for sharing.
What happens to transparent areas when I convert TIFF to JPG?
JPG cannot store transparency, so the converter fills transparent areas with white, the color most viewers show behind them. Semi-transparent pixels, such as soft shadows, are blended onto white. To keep transparency, choose a format that stores it, such as PNG or WebP.
Which quality setting should I choose for JPG?
The quality slider goes from 0 to 100 and starts at 90, a good balance for most images. Lower it for smaller files; raise it if you see blur or blocky artifacts around text. You can convert again with another value and compare the file sizes shown with the result.
Is the TIFF to JPG converter free?
Yes, it is free and needs no account. It converts one image at a time, up to 10 MB and 25 megapixels, and adds no watermark. Images are processed for the conversion and are not stored permanently.
