What changes when you convert SVG to JPG
- The vector drawing becomes a JPG made of pixels. Its size is the width and height written in the SVG file, or its viewBox when it has none, so a small icon gives a small JPG.
- JPG compression is lossy. You choose the quality (90 by default): lower values make smaller files but can blur fine detail and leave artifacts around text and sharp edges.
- JPG has no transparency: transparent areas of the SVG are filled with white, and semi-transparent edges are blended onto white.
SVG and JPG compared
SVG
A vector format: shapes, paths and text described in XML instead of pixels.
- Compression
- Not pixel-based, so the drawing scales to any size without blur.
- Transparency
- Transparent wherever nothing is drawn.
- Animation
- Possible with CSS or SMIL; a conversion renders one still image.
- Support
- All modern browsers and vector editors; many upload forms, marketplaces and social networks accept only bitmap images.
- Typical uses
- Logos, icons, illustrations and diagrams on websites.
JPG
The most widely used photo format; .jpg and .jpeg are two extensions of the same JPEG format.
- Compression
- Lossy: it discards detail the eye notices least, and a quality setting trades file size against artifacts.
- Transparency
- None: every pixel is opaque.
- Animation
- None.
- Support
- Opens in virtually every browser, operating system, image editor and app.
- Typical uses
- Photos, camera images, web pages, email attachments.

Frequently asked questions
Answers about converting SVG images to JPG with this free tool.
What size will the JPG be?
The JPG uses the width and height written in the SVG file, or the size of its viewBox when there is none. To get a larger image, increase the width and height in the SVG before converting.
SVG to JPG or SVG to PNG?
PNG keeps transparency and sharp edges without compression artifacts, which suits logos and icons. Choose JPG when a form or app accepts only JPG, or for a detailed illustration where a smaller file matters.
What happens to transparent areas when I convert SVG to JPG?
JPG cannot store transparency, so the converter fills transparent areas with white, the color most viewers show behind them. Semi-transparent pixels, such as soft shadows, are blended onto white. To keep transparency, choose a format that stores it, such as PNG or WebP.
Which quality setting should I choose for JPG?
The quality slider goes from 0 to 100 and starts at 90, a good balance for most images. Lower it for smaller files; raise it if you see blur or blocky artifacts around text. You can convert again with another value and compare the file sizes shown with the result.
Is the SVG to JPG converter free?
Yes, it is free and needs no account. It converts one image at a time, up to 10 MB and 25 megapixels, and adds no watermark. Images are processed for the conversion and are not stored permanently.
